Car is done, all is well, no need to go back to the MVA...sigh, happy. Benny's got a new mirror. Still a little dent and scratch, but the new mirror was all I could do now! Besides the fact that I kind of needed it in order to pass inspection, you know, little things like that. Heard a great new song today and the words were just right. Don't you just love it when you hear a song and the words just fit so perfectly that you feel like someone peered into your head and wrote down all the things you were feeling, in a way you hadn't even thought of to describe those feelings, then gave it to you for a listen. Yeah, it's sort of like that...

I got my MD license this weekend. The picture is, ha ha, um well, that's enough of that. The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous though. Driving around Saturday morning with no coat and the windows open when only last Saturday I just broke out the winter coat because we had our first real snowfall of the year. Oh it was so peaceful too. I went outside to clear off my car and with the snow still coming down, everything was just so quiet and still. I love it when it snows and was sorry to see it go away so soon.
So after my foray to the MVA, I had to work. But it was so very slow so we actually got to go early. Being as I was at work on Sat. in the first place, this was a good thing. And driving home, there was just the most beautiful sunset, so pretty I had to actually yell it out loud!

So my lien has been received by the MVA, one step down. Ah, this was the first week of our longer schedules, ughh, not much fun. I alternate 3 days 10-6:30 and 2 days 11:30-8. I get to sleep later, which is probably one of the only pluses I'm seeing to this. I used to get home late enough, now it's like the whole day is gone by the time I get home and there's no time to get anything done.

So I have started the whole process of registering my car here in Maryland. This is an extremely long and drawn-out, complicated process, with even more to do because my car is new. The problem is that I need to get this done as soon as possible, being as my registration in PA runs out at the end of this month. I should have done it earlier, but I just kept putting it off. I really just didn't want to change my car to MD. Honestly, I still don't really want to. I guess I just haven't really been able to think of MD as my home. I mean I kind of think of it the way Gettysburg was my home, or Edinburgh was my home, you know, as a place I'll only be in for a certain amount of time but won't actually end up in (well, not any time soon, I can hold out hope for Britain in the far ahead future!) Oh well, maybe I'll get used to it later, but I'd like to think it's maybe just another stopover to where I'm supposed to end up!

I took a reservation from someone at Gettysburg today, which made me oh so happy! She started giving her phone # 717-337... and I was like, 'what school do you go to?' And she's a senior which means she was there when I was there, what a small world. Besides that, it's basically just a Monday, a regular old Monday. Part of me can't wait til we get to the busy season, although I know it will be hell, because that's sooner that it'll all be over (rationalizing is good...). Then I can figure out what I'm going to do over the summer, whether I want to stay here with close to nothing to do (which is tempting in its own way) or find another way to support myself til we come back here in August.
Here at work I sit next to a wall of floor to ceiling windows. I like this very much, because I don't think I could deal with a window-less little room. But because we are nearly next to the airport, I watch planes take off all day long which is one big tease sometimes! I've always looked up at planes in the sky, especially when I used to take walks at night at home, and wondered where those people were going and what awaited them. Sometimes I just feel like getting on one of those planes and going off somewhere, anywhere...

So not much to report here today, it was a regular old weekend and it's off to work in the morning. We were supposed to meet Barb, Brent and Damien for dinner before they went off to the Billy Joel/Elton John concert. Alas, our not-so-hot attempt at navigating the metro system delayed us and we missed them. Okay, so we just didn't get off at the right stop at the right time, oh well. So we had our own little dinner back at the happy place known as Bennigan's where, what is this I discover...they have brought back my reuben!!! Just my absolute favorite sandwich, oh, they are so good...I was most disappointed when they took them away. The one by my home used to make them on pretzel rolls, mmmmmmmmm
Alright, gushing about food is only cute for so long. We watched Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas as well, trippy movie, triiiippppy. I read the book for one of my classes in school and liked it a lot but woo, that was something.

Ahh, Garbage in the morning, the band, not well, trash. What a good album (Version 2.0). You can pretty much listen all the way through and enjoy it all and not really need to be a fan, have heard any previous albums, or feel the need to buy any more, an all around good album, it's a good thing to hang on to those when you find them. We in the office here have complete control over the stereo and can put in whatever we want whenever. I just love that I've actually had people request we put on some of my mixes. I tell you, techno at 9:30 in the morning gets you in a good frame of mind to make business calls! I always wonder if they can hear it all though, I once had a girl on the phone start singing to the music in my office! Hey, you know you're cool when you come back to a call and someone asks you what the music on your hold was!
So it's starting to get sunny out now, which is good I guess, but I was happy with the rainy grey morning as well. Rainy days never really bothered me, unless they interfere with some event or something, but generally I like them. They are nice, cozy, curl up in bed with someone days and I am all for as many of those as they hand out. There's just something about being warm inside while it's cool and rainy outside that just makes me feel calm and secure, odd as it sounds. It is also just reminding me of Scotland. Yes, people joke all the time that Britain is a rainy, cold place, which is not actually true. It doesn't rain as much as some people think and can be quite sunny and gorgeous out. But there's something about going hiking up in the mountains, bundled in your many layers, which come off one by one as you get going, with a light drizzle running down your face. It's kinda exhilirating (don't I sound cheesy?!) Plus you feel a little freer to get dirty, and hiking in the dirt and mud can be such fun, just watch your footing. After a few days in Glencoe, between the hiking and the canyoning down the falls, my arms looked like I'd been beaten! Ask Mel about some of my more inventive spills! (I seem to fall flat on my ass in the mud every time I go to the Isle of Skye.) I honestly believe everyone, at least once in their lives, should get to Scotland, and up into those Highlands. There's just something that draws me there. Ok, sorry, enough of my rambling there.
Woo... call backs are at 48, baby! 48!

Well, forget that then. Turned away; I was going to go give blood today. They're doing it somewhere close by and lots of people from work have been going over all day. I had heard before that they had started denying people that had spent time in Britain but I never knew all the details. It now seems that if you've spent more than a total of 3 months in the UK since 1980, you can't give blood! Since I can fit that about 3 or 4 times over, I'm being shunned, shunned for my Britishness (or whatever you want to call it)!
So I'm off for an oil change today. First time I'm taking my car for one. Apparently, I was never made aware that you're supposed to do this every 3-4,000 miles, so I'm a bit, uh, overdue. There's just far too much to worry about with my car right now; PA registration is up soon and haven't done it for MD yet, that's one thing. But then there's my lovely taped mirror, I am nowhere in sight of having enough money to get that fixed but every time I look at my little Benny with his mirror taped back on, oh, it's so sad...damn those deer!

Sometimes there's so much more going on inside someone than is ever shown on the outside. AAHHHHH, things just SUCK right now! They just do! I can't stand this, why does everything need to crash all at once? No, I'm really asking...

Lest it not all be doom and gloom - my cousin just emailed me. Looks like the cross country US trip is on for this summer! Woo hoo! Finally, someone who's just gonna go off with me. It was his idea, in fact! Must be in the blood...

Thoughts at this time:
I need my car fixed; deer are the most expensive animal I've encountered.
Am I just imagining it?
Why is my interest rate so damn high?
What does that mean, he just left? You don't just leave...
How do you deal with even the most remote possibility of facing one of your biggest fears?
Where am I going to get the money for this?...and this?...and this?...and this?...
I want to make her feel better but I can't and I don't know what to say or what to do and I'm trying not to break myself though I know it's harder for her.
Please God, let them work this out.
I just need to talk...
What on earth is the thing under the stove?
What's next?
I want the chance to do it better.
I felt guilty leaving home.
Thanks Mel, I know it gets old and repetitive quickly but I needed it...
I need to lose weight. Send me back to Britain, it was easier there..
Julie's in Australia, Cat's in France, Mike was in Finland, Mark was in Australia, Teresa and Andre are on their way to Canada, why am I at a desk again, oh yeah, no money...I will get back out there.
Why don't they just pay their damn money, I don't want to be the bitch on the phone.
I am not a hopeless, but hopeful, romantic.
Sometimes you just have to take the chance. Whether it's good, or blows up in your face, you did something.
Why would you avoid me?
Okay, well, now that you're thinking, 'good Lord, how melodramatic, snap out of it,' I'll just be going!

What a fun little toy. I have a feeling I'm going to be on here a lot more often than I can manage to keep my own written journal updated. I am sadly behind on that, mainly because I take so much time because I feel like I want to get every little thing down. I don't seem to be very good at it though; I've started one on every foreign trip I've taken and they always start out really promising. I do get some of the juicy stuff down, but then it starts to slowly diminish until most of the recollections of things that happened are left to what I keep in my own little head. But then again, those journals are for me only, hee hee, I hope to keep this going with stuff to share.
So I was on my way to work this morning and I saw this van, just a plain white van, but the ad on the side was one of those Virgin Atlantic ads from just a few years ago, the ones with Austin Powers. This one proclaimed 'non-smoking flights, but not if I'm on board, baby!' Just made me smile with happy London thoughts.

I've been reading the weblogs of my friends for many months now and have always found them amusing and entertaining. I've been tempted many times to start one of my own, but for some reason or another, just put it off, like so many other things I let go. There's so much going on inside this head and, sometimes, nowhere to release or share it! So in an effort to help me (because really, keeping things all bottled up really does hurt sometimes), and to share some of the random ramblings that are me, it's my turn to blog! Welcome...
